.zip

.zip is a generic top-level domain whose letters are strongly associated with ZIP archive files and the idea of compressing or packaging information. Google Registry uses that association to position the namespace for projects, files, developers and creators.

A .zip domain can suit software, technical portfolios, file-sharing tools, packaged resources and brands that want a compact, fast-moving identity. The extension is not limited to sites that actually distribute ZIP files, so the name before the dot should make the purpose of the site clear.

.zip is included in the HSTS preload list. Browsers therefore require HTTPS for websites under the TLD, and a valid certificate must be configured for normal web access.

Because .zip is also a familiar filename extension, users should still pay attention to the full domain or URL when following links or downloading files.

VYR classifies .zip as open, subject to Google Registry and ICANN policies, reserved names and third-party rights.
