.wales

.wales is a geographic generic top-level domain for Wales and is operated by Nominet alongside the Welsh-language .cymru extension.

The domain can suit Welsh businesses, tourism, culture, media, organizations, community projects and individuals who want Wales to be visible in their online identity. It is technically a generic TLD rather than the United Kingdom's country-code namespace.

Nominet opened .wales to everyone at general availability. There is no general requirement that the registrant live in Wales, so international organizations can also use the extension for a Welsh market, audience or heritage connection.

That openness does not weaken the geographic meaning. A project with no genuine connection to Wales should consider whether the address could create misleading expectations.

VYR classifies .wales as open. Registrations remain subject to Nominet's current policies, reserved names and third-party rights.
