.tv is the country-code top-level domain for Tuvalu. Its two letters also match the common abbreviation for television, which has given the extension a strong international identity far beyond its geographic origin. The television association makes .tv a natural fit for streaming platforms, video channels, broadcasters, production companies, creators, esports, live events and other projects where moving-image content is central. In those cases the extension can communicate the medium immediately.

That branding use should not obscure the underlying classification: .tv is still Tuvalu's country-code domain, not a generic “television” TLD. For a project with no media component, the extension may create expectations that the website does not meet.

Standard .tv registration is generally available internationally without a Tuvalu residence requirement. Individual names may be reserved or premium, and registrants remain subject to registry policies, availability and third-party rights.
