.travel

.travel is a community generic top-level domain created for the travel industry. Its eligibility scope is broad, but it is not an unrestricted namespace for any unrelated registrant.

ICANN's current Specification 12 says the community includes people, businesses, organizations and entities engaged in, intending to engage in, or related to the travel industry. Examples include airlines, hotels, restaurants, tour operators, travel agents, tourism offices, transport services, travel media, insurance, education, search services and travel technology.

The registry must maintain authentication protocols designed to limit registration to that community and requires eligibility review before completion of registrations. A project therefore needs a genuine travel-industry connection rather than merely liking the word “travel”.

A .travel domain still does not certify service quality, licensing, insurance or official tourism authority status.

VYR classifies .travel as restricted because community eligibility is an explicit continuing part of the registry framework.
