.site is a generic top-level domain built around one of the most basic words for a website or place on the internet. IANA lists the extension in the Radix registry portfolio.

Because “site” does not imply a particular industry, the extension can be used for businesses, portfolios, communities, campaigns, documentation, temporary projects and personal websites. That neutrality can be useful when the name before the dot already carries the brand or subject and the owner does not want the extension to narrow it further.

The same neutrality means .site provides less descriptive information than extensions such as .shop, .design or .cafe. For a new brand, the main name and surrounding messaging may therefore need to do more work to explain what the website offers.
