.ruhr is a geographic generic top-level domain for Germany's Ruhr metropolitan region. IANA lists dotSaarland GmbH as the sponsoring organization, and the registry presents the extension as a digital identity for the Ruhr area.

The domain can suit regional businesses, tourism, culture, media, community projects and organizations that want an explicit connection to the Ruhr. Unlike Germany's .de country-code domain, .ruhr is a generic TLD dedicated to one geographic region.

Registration is broader than a strict Ruhr-resident-only namespace, but it is not as frictionless as an ordinary unrestricted gTLD. Current registrar implementations of the .ruhr registration rules commonly require a Germany-based administrative contact even when the registrant itself is located elsewhere.
