.ro

.ro is the country-code top-level domain for Romania and is managed by RoTLD at the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics. It is the most direct country-domain identity for Romanian websites.

RoTLD's published registration rules allow both natural persons and legal entities to register .ro domains, including registrants outside Romania. Ordinary direct registrations are therefore not limited by a general Romanian residence or company-presence requirement, although registrants must provide valid information and follow the registry's contractual and naming rules.

The extension is a natural fit for Romanian businesses, organizations, media, services and projects aimed at a Romanian audience. International companies can also use .ro for a Romanian market presence without the domain itself proving that they have a local legal entity.

As with other country-code domains, registry rules are set within the .ro policy framework rather than the standard gTLD contract model. VYR classifies .ro as an open ccTLD, subject to RoTLD rules, unavailable or reserved names and third-party rights.
