.re

.re is the country-code top-level domain for Réunion, a French overseas department and region in the Indian Ocean. It provides a distinctive geographic identity for local businesses, tourism, organizations and projects connected with the island.

Afnic manages .re under the same core holder-eligibility framework used for the other Afnic-managed French country-code domains. Individuals must reside, and legal entities must have their registered office or main establishment, in an EU member state or in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.

That means .re is not globally unrestricted even though an eligible registrant does not have to live specifically on Réunion. The two letters can also form useful wordplay in other languages, but the eligibility rules still apply regardless of the branding idea.

A .re domain does not demonstrate residence on the island, local company status or official endorsement.
