.prof

.prof is a generic top-level domain built around “prof”, a common abbreviation for professor. Google Registry positions it for educators, academic researchers and experts who want a teaching or knowledge-focused online identity.

A .prof domain can suit faculty profiles, course materials, research, educational blogs, mentoring, lectures and specialist knowledge sites. Google Registry's current public page states that anyone who wants to share knowledge can register a .prof domain, so the namespace is not limited by a formal professor-employment test.

That openness also means .prof is not evidence that the registrant holds a professorship, academic appointment or specific qualification. If a website makes such claims, visitors should verify them through the relevant institution.

.prof is included in the HSTS preload list, so HTTPS is required for web use.

VYR classifies .prof as open, subject to Google Registry and ICANN policies, accurate representation, reserved names and third-party rights.
