.nz is the country-code top-level domain for New Zealand. It is widely used by New Zealand businesses, organizations and individuals who want a clear national identity online.

The Domain Name Commission states that anyone over 18 can register a .nz domain and that the registrant does not have to be located in New Zealand. Names are generally allocated on a first-come, first-served basis through authorized .nz registrars. This makes direct second-level registrations such as example.nz accessible to overseas registrants as well as local users.
