.nyc

.nyc is a geographic generic top-level domain for New York City. It was created to provide a dedicated online identity for people, businesses, organizations and communities with a real connection to the city.

Unlike an open geographic-themed extension, .nyc has a formal Nexus Policy. Registrants must be able to show a substantive and lawful economic, cultural, historical, social or other connection to New York City, and that connection must continue for the life of the registration. A post office box by itself does not satisfy the requirement.

That makes .nyc a strong local signal for restaurants, shops, cultural organizations, professionals, neighborhood projects and city-focused services that genuinely operate in or serve New York City.

The eligibility rule also means that simple availability is not enough. Registrants must remain compliant with the Nexus Policy and relevant laws, and a domain cannot be transferred to a party that fails the nexus requirement.

VYR therefore classifies .nyc as restricted.
