.nrw

.nrw is the geographic generic top-level domain for North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous federal state. The abbreviation NRW is widely used within Germany, giving the extension a compact regional identity.

Unlike .bayern's general registration model, .nrw has an explicit local-presence requirement. The registry's published Domain Name Registration Policy limits eligibility to individuals residing in the postal-code area of North Rhine-Westphalia, self-employed or freelance individuals with a place of business there, and entities with a place of business in the state.

That makes .nrw particularly relevant for local companies, professionals, organizations and residents who want their connection to North Rhine-Westphalia visible in the domain itself.

A .nrw domain still does not prove government status, professional licensing or endorsement by the state. Registrants must continue to comply with registry policies and third-party rights.

VYR classifies .nrw as restricted because residence or a qualifying place of business in North Rhine-Westphalia is an explicit eligibility condition.
