.nl is the country-code top-level domain for the Netherlands and is operated by SIDN. It is a long-established national namespace used by Dutch businesses, organizations and individuals.

SIDN's registrant terms explicitly state that anyone living or based anywhere in the world may apply through a registrar to register a .nl domain. Applicants outside the Netherlands accept additional procedural provisions, including the use of SIDN's office address for certain formal legal documents relating to the registration.

That open eligibility makes .nl useful both for domestic registrants and for international companies serving the Dutch market. The geographic signal is strongest when a website genuinely targets users in the Netherlands.

SIDN requires registration information to be complete and correct and can request evidence when there are grounds to suspect fraudulent registration data.
