.lv is the country-code top-level domain for Latvia. It provides a direct geographic identity for Latvian businesses, organizations, services and projects aimed at people in Latvia.

NIC.LV states that any natural or legal person from any country may obtain the right to use a .lv domain. A natural person must be at least 18 years old, and local presence in Latvia is not required. Registration can be made directly through NIC.LV or through service providers and registrars.

Those open eligibility rules make .lv accessible to international organizations as well as local registrants. The country signal remains strong, however, so visitors are likely to associate a .lv site with Latvia even when its registrant is based elsewhere.

Applicants remain responsible for choosing names that do not infringe third-party rights and for complying with NIC.LV policy.

VYR classifies .lv as an open ccTLD because the registry expressly permits registrants from any country without a local-presence requirement.
