.kids is a community generic top-level domain designed for content, services and projects that serve children and the people who support them. DotKids Foundation operates the namespace with the interests and rights of children at the center of its policy framework.

The registry states that anyone can register and use a .kids domain, so there is no general requirement to belong to a particular organization before applying. However, every registrant is bound by the .KIDS Guiding Principles. Those rules restrict illegal or inappropriate material, apply to the domain name itself as well as website content, and include expectations around protecting children's privacy. Violations can lead to suspension or deletion.

That combination makes .kids suitable for education, family services, children's products, charities, media and other child-focused projects, while still imposing meaningful use conditions.

A .kids address does not certify the educational, medical or commercial quality of the operator. VYR classifies .kids as mixed: public registration is broadly available, but mandatory child-protection content and use rules apply.
