.es is the country-code top-level domain for Spain and is managed by Red.es through Dominios.es. It is widely used by Spanish businesses, organizations, individuals and projects serving Spanish audiences.

Dominios.es states that .es domains can be requested from anywhere in the world by applicants who have links to Spain. Direct .es names are assigned automatically when the application meets the applicable rules, but the Spain-connection requirement remains part of eligibility.

This makes .es broader than a local-residence-only ccTLD, yet it is not completely unrestricted. Applicants outside Spain should be prepared to provide accurate identifying information and a defensible connection to Spain where the registry process requires it.

The direct .es namespace is also distinct from specialized spaces such as gob.es and edu.es, which require prior verification and are limited to qualifying public or educational entities.
