.eco

.eco is a community-oriented generic top-level domain for organizations, businesses and people committed to positive environmental change. Its registry operates a formal eligibility and activation process rather than treating the extension as an ordinary unrestricted green-themed label.

All new .eco domains begin on serverHold. Before the name can resolve on the internet, the registrant must activate an Eco Profile, affirm eligibility and take the registry's environmental pledge. The eligibility framework is intentionally broad, but participation requires a genuine commitment to respectful, responsible and sustainable use of the environment.

The registry can also require .eco profiles to be reviewed or updated over time. A .eco domain therefore creates stronger policy obligations than simply registering a descriptive environmental word.

The extension does not independently certify that a product or company is environmentally superior or compliant with every sustainability standard.

VYR classifies .eco as restricted because eligibility affirmation and activation requirements apply to all registrations.
