.cymru

.cymru is a geographic generic top-level domain for Wales. “Cymru” is the Welsh-language name for Wales, making the extension a particularly direct way to express Welsh identity online.

The extension can suit Welsh businesses, cultural organizations, tourism, media, community projects, public-interest initiatives and individuals who want to emphasize a connection with Wales or the Welsh language. Nominet operates both .cymru and .wales, and the two namespaces support Welsh-language internationalized domain names.

General availability is not limited by residence in Wales. Nominet opened .cymru to everyone, so a registrant can be based outside Wales while still using the extension to reach a Welsh audience or highlight Welsh heritage.

That openness does not make the geographic meaning neutral. A project with no genuine Welsh relevance should consider whether the domain could create misleading expectations.

VYR classifies .cymru as open. Registrations remain subject to Nominet's current .cymru/.wales registration and acceptable-use policies, reserved names and third-party rights.
