.charity

.charity is a generic top-level domain with a direct connection to charitable work, fundraising and mission-driven organizations. It can give donors and supporters immediate context about the subject of a website.

The extension can suit charities, nonprofit projects, foundations, fundraising campaigns, community initiatives and services that support charitable organizations. Public Interest Registry operates .charity as part of its family of mission-oriented domains.

PIR's current Registration Policy contains special entity-verification requirements for .ngo and .ong, but it does not impose that same NGO eligibility test on .charity. Standard .charity registration is therefore not proof that the registrant is a legally recognized charity.

That distinction is important for donors. A .charity domain does not establish nonprofit status, tax deductibility, fundraising authorization or the destination of donations; those claims should be independently verified.

VYR classifies .charity as open, subject to PIR and ICANN policies, applicable law, reserved names and third-party rights.
