.ch is the country-code top-level domain for Switzerland and is operated by SWITCH on behalf of the Swiss federal communications authority.

A registrant does not need to be Swiss, live in Switzerland or have a business based there in order to register a .ch domain. SWITCH states this explicitly in its public guidance. Registration is handled through accredited registrars and names are generally allocated on a first-come, first-served basis under the registry's terms.

The extension is therefore accessible internationally, although its strongest public meaning remains Swiss. It can suit Swiss companies, organizations, tourism, local services and international businesses maintaining a Switzerland-focused website.

Foreign registration should not be confused with official Swiss status. A .ch address does not prove that an organization is Swiss or has a physical presence in the country.

VYR classifies .ch as open. Registrants remain responsible for accurate data, applicable law, registry terms and third-party rights.
